Privacy
SpeedPrep is a math game made for kids. We built it to collect as little as possible. There are no accounts, no ads, and no third-party analytics or tracking tools in the app or on this website. This website loads nothing from other companies: its fonts and video pictures come from our own server.
What we never collect
- Names, email addresses, phone numbers or photos.
- Location, contacts, or anything else stored on the phone.
- Device model or advertising identifiers.
- IP addresses. Our servers do not store or log them.
What the app sends, and why
- A random install number. The app makes one up the first time it opens. It is not linked to the person or the phone. It lets the leaderboard show "your" row and stops one install from pretending to be another.
- Question results. For each step played: which question it was, whether the step was fastest, also fastest, slower or wrong, and how many milliseconds it took. We use this to learn which questions are hard, so we can make the game fairer.
- Daily Challenge scores, with a leaderboard name. Names are picked from a list of word pairs like "Swift Otter 42". Nobody can type their own name.
- Feedback, if you choose to send it. The feedback forms in the app and on our methods page send the method or question, the kind of problem you picked, and any text you write. Please don't include personal details in that text. Email addresses and phone numbers are removed automatically before anything is saved.
Gameplay works without the internet. Results wait on the phone and upload later.
Stopping abuse
To stop someone flooding us with fake installs or feedback, our server counts requests per internet address for one hour. It never saves the address itself, only a scrambled code made with a secret key that changes every day, and it deletes that code within 2 hours.
Racing friends
Races use Bluetooth between nearby phones. Race nicknames travel only between those phones and are never sent to us.
Videos
The methods page links to lessons on YouTube. Nothing from YouTube loads on our pages. If you open a video, you leave our site, and YouTube's own privacy policy applies there.
How long we keep data
- Scrambled internet-address codes (stopping abuse): deleted within 2 hours.
- Install numbers: deleted after 180 days without the app connecting.
- Question results: kept as anonymous counts per question. The archive of raw results, in which the install number is replaced by a one-way code, is deleted 24 months after we receive it.
- Daily Challenge scores: after 90 days the install number is removed from each score. The leaderboard name and score stay so past leaderboards still work, but they are no longer connected to any install.
- Feedback: deleted 12 months after it is sent.
For parents
Your child can play without giving us any personal information, and there is no account to set up. The app never asks for a name, email address, phone number, photo or location, and leaderboard names come from a fixed list.
Deleting your child's data. Open the app's settings and choose "Reset progress". The app then makes a new install number, so nothing new is connected to the old one, and the old install number is deleted after 180 days without use. Because we never know who an install number belongs to, we cannot look up a particular child's data.
Contacting us. Contact us through the feedback form on our methods page (choose "Something else"). A parent contact address is coming soon.
